De-Escalation and Tactical Communication

In this course, students will learn methods and skills to safely resolve critical incidents involving subjects who may pose a danger to themselves, citizens and law enforcement personnel. This course addresses reducing the need to use deadly force while protecting officers from physical and emotional harm. In an instructor led facilitated format, students will
engage in student learning activities. Discussion will include current legal considerations, situational awareness, self-control concepts, threat management, respect for human life and developing community trust.   


This is a Plan V course. Course tuition is free with the following conditions: 1) Students must be an active peace officer or public safety dispatcher employed by a POST reimbursable agency. 2) Travel and per diem is also available to POST
reimbursable agencies when the distance between the course presentation address and the employment agency address is between 50-150 miles. The course maybe presented at any remote or underserved law enforcement community.

POST non-reimbursable agencies students may also be able to attend with special permission.
